Software Policies
Software policies are determined through a joint effort between the Office of Instructional Technology, the Office of Computer Support Services, and the Office of Curriculum of Instruction.
This page is a work in progress.
Software Licensing and Installation
- All software installed on our network is subject to licensing laws, and must be approved and installed through the Office of Computer Support Services. Failure to be properly licensed puts the district and individuals at risk of a $250,000 fine per title, per computer.
- Regardless of legality, software titles owned by the school district may not be installed at home and CSS will not take responsibility for installing software on systems not owned by the district.
- Software owned by teachers may not be installed on school systems unless approved through CSS. To be approved, the software must be kept on the premises where the installation is to take place, the installation must be completed by CSS (or approved for teacher installation if appropriate), and the teacher must provide a statement in writing that the software is not illegally installed on any other system.
- CSS will not be responsible for troubleshooting software that has not been approved through their office. Also, they will not expend resources to repair a damaged system that was the result of improperly installed software, but rather the system will be returned to its original image.
