How Do I Request New Software Titles for My Class?
Software procedures are determined through a joint effort between the Office of Instructional Technology, the Office of Computer Support Services, and the Office of Curriculum of Instruction.
If there is a software title that you wish to use in your curriculum, follow these steps to acquire it:
- Email the Supervisor of Instructional Technology with the following information
- approximate cost of the software,
- the company who makes the software,
- a web site if available,
- the amount of money that you are able to apply from class/department/building/PTO budgets,
- the number of computers that you wish to put the software on
- the locations of the computers that need the installations put on them
- the approximate date that you plan to use the software with your class
- a brief description of the instructional intent/need of the software
- Upon review (usually within 48-hours unless a rush is indicated), the software will be purchased or suggested alternatives will be made.
Software Licensing and Installation
- All software installed on our network is subject to licensing laws, and must be approved and installed through the Office of Computer Support Services. Failure to be properly licensed puts the district and individuals at risk of a $250,000 fine per title, per computer.
- Regardless of legality, software titles owned by the school district may not be installed at home and CSS will not take responsibility for installing software on systems not owned by the district.
- Software owned by teachers may not be installed on school systems unless approved through CSS. To be approved, the software must be kept on the premises where the installation is to take place, the installation must be completed by CSS (or approved for teacher installation if appropriate), and the teacher must provide a statement in writing that the software is not illegally installed on any other system.
